I’ve been told that how useless it is that inside of me, there lies this unstoppable feeling towards fashion. I’ve been told that how I can do something this shallow with a big and an open heart?
We all have our strengths, our own guide called intuition that leads us in the middle of life’s waves. And the best thing we can do is deciding to trust 100% in life. A life that was born here to make this World a better place to live and be. A life that has a bigger meaning. Life that in what you have a destination. And we are prepared for that destination with what we have: with our personality, our heart, our talents and our passions.
Olen kuullut, että miten turhaa on, että sisälläni sykkii intohimo juuri muotia kohtaan. Kuullut, miten jotain niin kovin pinnallista voi tehdä suurella ja täydellä sydämellänsä?
Meillä jokaisella on omat vahvuudet, oma intuitio, joka johdattelee elämän aallokoissa. Parasta on se, kun siinä johdatuksessa päättää luottavansa sokeasti elämään. Elämään, joka syntyi tänne luodakseen maailmasta paremman paikan elää ja olla. Elämään, jolla on jokin suurempi tarkoitus. Elämään, jossa juuri sulla on päämäärä. Päämäärä, jota kohti meitä valmistelee meidän persoona, meidän sydän, meidän lahjakkuudet ja intohimon kohteet.
And that passion, that’s the word. A passion that you can’t imagine living without.
And in my case, that passion is fashion. It has always been that way. But sometimes when I hear what other’s are saying about this passion, I feel ashamed and insecure. Not because it’s the way I actually think but because sometimes other people’s words stop you. Those stop you to wonder that are you going to the right and -more importantly- authentic destination. And after thinking about this, I have always ended up with the same conclusion; it doesn’t get any more real than this.
Ja tuo intohimo, se on se sana. Intohimo, jota ilman et voisi kuvitella eläväsi.
Ja mulle se sattuu olemaan muoti, joka on aina kytenyt mussa ja puhjennut kukkaan hiljakseen, varovaisin askelin. Välillä nuo kuulemani sanat ovat ilmantuneet sisimpääni häpeän tunteena ja epävarmuutena. Ei siksi, että oikeasti ajattelisin niin vaan siksi, että välillä ne muiden sanat pysäyttävät. Pysäyttävät pohtimaan, että ollaanko menossa kohti oikeaa ja ennen kaikkea aitoa päämäärää. Ja olen aina tullut siihen samaan lopputulokseen; tämän aidommalta ei intohimo voisi tuntua.
But what fashion means to me?
It’s been a journey to myself, to my beliefs and to the inside of me. (You might wonder in this point that do I still talk about fashion. Answer: absolutely.) I have this unique option to express myself and my creativeness by dressing and planning outfits -and that’s something that someone can never experience. I dream about fashion as a career and entrepreneurship and that will tell that I have decided to create a job that’s not only the thing that gets food on the table, but it’s also my passion and something that makes me feel alive.
Mitä muoti sitten mulle merkitsee?
Se on ollut tutkimusmatka itseeni, aatteisiini ja sisimpääni. (On ihan luvallista miettiä tässä kohtaa, että puhunko todella vielä muodista. Vastaus: ehrottomasti.) Se, että mulla on valinnanvapaus ilmaista itseäni ja luovuuttani pukeutumalla on jotain, mitä joku ei välttämättä koskaan saa kokea. Se, että haaveilen muodista ammattia ja yrittäjyyttä kertoo siitä, että olen päättänyt luoda itselleni työn, joka on myös intohimoni -ei ainoastaan asia, joka tuo leivän pöytään.
When a model is walking on the catwalk wearing “again something strange”, few people will think that fashion designers are taking part of fighting for something that’s showing on their collections and will be a part of the history.
For example, in 1920’s Coco Chanel changed fashion and in that way also history by making for women clothes that would be more comfortable like trousers -and before that were only men’s rights. Or nowadays for example a year ago when Business of Fashion announced #TiedTogether movement that supported of solidarity and human unity during all that political chaos. Among other, Tommy Hilfiger, Diane von Furstenberg and Prabal Gurung took part. Or for example, the Boy meets Girl label that fights against bullying -in schools, workplaces and everywhere.
There are so many examples how fashion has affected and those make me fall in love with fashion more and more. Fashion that changes the World with one collection at a time. And I feel that it’s my duty to work as a fashion messenger and use my gifts in a fashion world.
Kun catwalkeilla marssii malli päällään “taas jotain eriskummallista” niin harva tulee pohtineeksi sitä, että muotisuunnittelijat elävät ajan hermoilla ja asiat, joiden puolesta taistellaan niin näkyvät myös mallistoissakin ja muistuttavat meitä myös historian tapahtumista.
Esimerkiksi 20-luvulla Coco Chanel vapautti naiset korseteista ja muista rajoittavista pukeutumissäännöistä tuomalla naisten keskuuteen mukavampia vaatteita, jotka aiemmin miellettiin miesten vaatteiksi. Tai nykypäivänä vaikkapa vuosi sitten Business of Fashionin lanseeraama #TiedTogether-kampanja kehoitti muotimaailmaa ottamaan kantaa tasavertaisuudesta kaiken poliittisen sekasorron keskellä. Tähän ottivat kantaa muun muassa Tommy Hilfiger, Diane von Furstenberg ja Prabal Gurung. Hyvänä esimerkkinä on myös suomalaisille kuluttajille (tai ainakin, jos asioit Prismassa) tutuksi tullut newyorkilainen Boy meets Girl-vaatemerkki, joka ottaa kantaa kiusaamiseen ja vastustaa sitä henkeen ja vereen -niin kouluissa, työpaikoilla kuin muuallakin.
Ja näitä esimerkkejä on mielin määrin, jotka saavat mut rakastumaan aina vain enemmän ja enemmän muotiin. Muotiin, jonka tarkoituksena on muuttaa maailmaa yksi mallisto kerrallaan. Koen, että se on mun tehtävä; toimia muodin sanansaattajana ja hyödyntää luovuuttani ja lahjojani muodin maailmassa.

So, my next question to someone who doubts my relationship with fashion is,
how on earth fashion is just shallowness?
